"Surrounding yourself with the best people doesn't make you look worse by comparison. It makes you better." - Ann Friedman, Boss Bae
Strength in sisterhood.
Women empowering women.
These are a few of the leading concepts behind the Shine Theory.
Have you heard of it? If so, great! If not, no worries! You'll know more here in a minute.
When I first discovered the Shine Theory, I knew right away that it was something I wanted to share with my Boss Baes, because I think there is so much to be learned from it! Not only that, but I know from my own experiences that women can be the loudest and most vicious critics.
I'm sure some of you can relate, too.
Think about it, everything in our society pits us against each other. Two women can't even step out in the same fabulous outfit without the media asking 'Who Wore it Better?' Competition has literally become part of our culture. The same goes for men, too.
Boss Baes, the girl-on-girl crime has GOT to stop!
It's SUCH a shame when women act as if there's not enough happiness, success, and confidence in the world for everyone! It's petty and can even be downright hateful. I don't understand it. We should be each other's greatest allies. Why do we insist upon isolating ourselves like that?!
That is exactly why I love the Shine Theory.
It's meant to encourage women not only to support but to elevate one another. The idea is that surrounding yourself with strong, powerful women can inspire greatness in you and enrich your life. The mantra behind it is, "I don't shine if you don't shine." See how that works?
Let's be real for a minute, are you really shining when you're only building yourself up? When your only concern is yourself? Sorry sis. Not in my book. The people who are truly shining are the ones who build themselves AND lift someone else up along the way. Surely you can see the difference. And I hope that by the end of this post, we can all agree that this is a rewarding approach to life for everyone.
What's that? News flash!
The strongest women are the ones who are empowering other women!
CAN YOU HEAR ME IN THE BACK? Empowered women empower women! We rise by lifting others! That's the true Boss Bae way.
So if you see a fellow Boss Bae, don't be intimidated. Don't be envious or critical. Resist that competitive instinct and reach out to her, or ask her questions. Try to CONNECT. Maybe even become friends. BBLU. (Boss Baes Link Up)
Ya'll know my favorite word is 'collaboration'. Grab a latte, sit down and discuss how you can maximize your joint slay. You may be fierce alone, but we could be a FORCE if we work together!
Can you see why I love it? This theory is about genuinely investing in and celebrating other women. For some of you, that will come naturally... for others it may require a little more work. Either way, I want you to start noticing the women around you. How do they carry themselves? Do they have goals that they actively pursue? Do they inspire you to be better? Do they encourage you to let your light shine?
If not, I suggest you find a new group of gals to hang with. The people you surround yourself with TRULY matter and this theory only proves it!
Remember ladies: The success of another woman is not only important for her, but for all of us.
When you shine, I shine babe.
Best of luck, Boss Baes!
